Suggestions Before Tinting Your Windows

Tinting the windows in your car can have many benefits such as a new fresh look for your car, privacy while driving, and reduced light intake.  Tinting services are relatively inexpensive and easy to find however, there are a few things you should take into account before you decide to buy the service.

Certain types of tinting can be illegal in some states.  In many states across the U.S., tinting your windows at 5% visibility, which is the darkest possible window tint, is illegal.  Tint of this opaqueness can general not be seen through from the outside.  Different states have varying reasons as to why this is against the law such as safety for police officers; the ability to easily identify drivers as well as the driver’s own visibility can be compromised.  Most states allow some type of window tint however, it must be at a minimum visibility rating.  The lowest in states that have laws on the books for window tinting is around 35%.  At this rating, the windows will still be dark and it may still be difficult to see into a car at a particular angle however, it is far more transparent than the lowest 5% rating or “blacked out” windows.

Another factor that should be taken into account before ordering tint services and that will most likely be discovered and reported by a window tinting expert is the type of windows on your car.  While most all passenger windows can be tinted fairly easily, rear windows can be an issue.  This is because many rear windows have built in defrost wires that heat up to melt ice and snow on a window.  This is a great feature however, these wires also cause window tint to bubble and peel.  It is not to say you cannot tint a window such as this however, you may want to limit your use of the feature after the window has been tinted and definitely during the first few days the tint is on the window.

Lastly, before you go looking for someone to tint your windows, make sure you do your research and find a reputable and professional window tint expert.  Car window tinting is an art more than a science and it is too easy to screw up.  Do not be lured in by shops or individuals offering cheap prices.  With window tint, you will get what you pay for.  It is not worth paying next to nothing only to have the tint bubble up and look horrible after one week in the sun.
